Hotshot Truck Insurance
Looking for Hotshot Truck Insurance?
Hotshot trucking (AKA hotshot trucking) involves hauling smaller, more time-sensitive LTL loads within a specific timeframe, and usually to a single customer or location. Hotshot loads are usually delivered using a heavy-duty one-ton pickup truck, like a dually. using medium-duty trucks that pull flatbed trailers. Hotshot truck insurance requirements vary depending on your operations.
As transportation risk specialists, we understand your operations and how underwriters think to ensure you get the best result on your insurance.
Hotshot Risks
Trailer Types: Different trailer types and their attachment to your truck, depending on their features, can lead to trailer swaying, trailer instability, and control breakdown. You need at least a reliable and super duty bumper pull trailer or preferably a gooseneck trailer that connects to a gooseneck hitch installed into your truck bed’s frame.
Trailer Air Ride Suspension: Most trailers hauled by class 7 or 8 trucks have air ride suspension. However, many of the smaller hotshot trailers do not have air ride suspension, which means that loads have a higher likelihood of being damaged by driving conditions.
Road/Weather Conditions: Many hotshots have open trailers. Weather is spontaneous and it leaves your cargo in the open trailer without any protection from storms, high-wind, rain, and wildlife.
Regulations Vary: Depending on where you haul, distance you haul, and what you haul, and size of loads, your company may be required different levels of insurance, your drivers may be required to have a CDL, and your company may be required to have a DOT number.

Insurance Considerations
Cost of Equipment: Your physical damage policy covers damage to your truck and trailer. However, there are limits to what is covered and up to what point. If you add additional equipment to your truck, like the gooseneck hitch, these items need sufficient coverage on your policy.
Cargo Hauled: Hotshots offer expedited load services for their customers; these can be either local or even nationwide. Due to the variety of loads you can haul, and the high cost of a typical shipment being hauled, you need sufficient insurance to cover actual damages.
Why Insurance Matters
When you own an expedited transportation business and you haul its associated high-value commodities, you need to purchase various types of insurance related to vehicle transport. It’s not just your truck you have to worry about. If anything were to happen to any of the commodities you hauled, it would come out of your paycheck.
